Summer SAT Weekend Getaway # London: Fill your page with clocks, watches and all things time.
This weekend, our town celebrated the inauguration of the Clock Tower (Tour de l'Horloge) after several months of restoration.
There was a medieval festival for the occasion and the opportunity to visit the tower, which wasn't possible before.
We also learned a lot about the history of this tower.
What amused me most was that this clock marks an opposition to the clergy, who had the "power" to tell the time for religious purposes, and with this tower, it was the citizens who told the time. I didn't even know it was so symbolic and today I find it rather funny.
The city's children, the elderly, and a few people left messages in time capsules that will be opened in 2111 for the clock's 600th anniversary. My children and I realized that they would be very old, and I would be gone, which made us all emotional... Time flies so quickly.
