Here is my story...
September 15, 1968 - Little ol’ me was born in a hospital in Shelbyville, Indiana. While my birth wasn’t particularly eventful in and of itself, some of the events surrounding it were of interest. First, I was born at the height of the Vietnam War. My dad was drafted before I was conceived, but shortly after I was conceived, he was sent to Germany on a tour of duty. My mom stayed behind in the US. So my dad was not around for my birth. My mom opted to move in temporarily with her parents. While it was very stressful for her being away from her husband and having to be under her parents thumb again as an adult, there was one major advantage. Her mother, my grandmother, was a registered nurse, the head nurse at the local hospital in Shelbyville. So my grandmother not only helped deliver me, but she and a couple of her nursing buddies gave me my first bath. Yes I was bathed by three registered nurses - I was very pampered.
After I was born, my mom took me to Connecticut, where I met my other grandparents - the picture here is me with my Grandpa Dauer. I was an only grandchild for them, so they were thrilled to meet me. At 2 months, I got my shots and went over via plane to meet my dad finally. My family was together at last...
