One Tuesday at a Time

My volunteer work at the shelter for the homeless who suffer from addition and mental illness has been such a blessing in my life. I hope my friends there feel the same.

Journaling:

On Tuesdays, I prepare food for 80 people and drive it to the rough part of downtown. I don't care that the place is in a bad neighborhood full of drive bys, robberies, and drug deals. I serve food to shelter residents who are not only homeless, but suffer from the grips of addition and mental illness. These are the people for whom others turn away their glances. In return, they brighten my world one Tuesday at a time.

I will never cure cancer.
I will never bring peace to the world.

I will, however, teach my children the value of every human being, and the importance of reaching out to give a helping hand to others and a kind word to others in need. I will continue to serve food and reach out to those less fortunate than I, and I will do it ONE TUESDAY AT A TIME.
