I don't have the body of a runner. I don't have the running experience of most of the people who ran the race. But I did it. I ran my very first 5K - on my 26th birthday. Pushing Wes in the stroller was just as hard as the actual running, but he was great company and awesome encouragement. Every time someone would get close to us, he would say very seriously "Mom, you'd better hurry up! We need to get in the front!" Every time I would slow down, he would say "But Mom, I'm doing FINE!" Once he
told me to cut around a corner and "through the grass" to get to the front.
About half way I wondered what I had gotten myself into, but then I caught a second wind. I didn't run the whole way - I did walk some. Many people passed me, and many finished in front of me. But when I crossed the finish line, none of that mattered. In my mind I had won the whole thing... because I did it! I finished my first 5K, and I lived to tell about it!
