My daughter was 4 before she got her first sunburn. I felt like such a horrible mom. Growing up as a fair-skinned redhead I burned very easily and the first real sign that it was summer was my hot, dry, red skin. I try so hard to be proactive and use tons of sunscreen and not let my kids get burned. My girl is now 10 and I can say that this burn is the worst she's had. My son on the other hand burns way more easily than his sister and no matter how much sunscreen I put on him and how often I apply it (or the SPF) he still gets red. :(
