My library at a charter school doesn’t have circulation software, so all cards are hand-written and books are checked out by hand. Because kindergarten students are just learning to write, I and my two assistants write their names on the cards for them. When they begin first grade, they are very eager write their names themselves, and are very proud of their new skill. I love watching those precious hands little carefully writing their names in the small space on the library cards.
