Don't Grow Up Too Soon

Journaling says: The thing I hate the most about this disease.. other than the constant worrying, the highs and the lows and well honestly, just about everything about it.. is that it forces you to grow up before you should have to. At six, you should be counting random objects instead, you're very quickly learning to count carbs. Instead of getting up in the morning and enjoying your Lucky Charms, you wake up in the morning and face the reality that you're going to have to have your blood sugar checked and a shot before you can eat them. At lunch time, you can't be like the other kids and pick through your lunch and eat the bare minimum and then head outside to play, you must eat everything that is marked with a "C" because it contains your carbs and when you don't finish it before your lunchtime is over you have to go to the nurse's office and finish it during your recess. Why? Because your life truly depends on it. I know you're being forced to grow up before your ready, but I beg you to cling to your childhood.. cling to the things that make you just like everyone else and don't worry about the things that make you different. You'll have the rest of your life to focus on that. I promise you, my beautiful baby girl, I'll do everything humanly possible to ensure your life is as "normal" as your diabetes will allow.

Amazing journaling and the perfect picture to pair it with! I hope she's able to do exactly as you said and remain a kid in spite of diabetes.
