Journaling:
Beach Day is one of the days of summer we all look forward to. It’s the day when Sarah & I pack up you kids and head up to New Buffalo Beach for the day. This year there had been a few rip currant warnings, but when we got there the flag was yellow, so we told you guys to stay close to the shore. At one point, I notice you were getting pretty far out. With the noise of the strong waves,
you couldn’t hear me yelling at you so I started walking out to you. It was then that I realized that you were having trouble getting back to the shore. You were floating because you couldn’t touch anymore & the waves were carrying you out further. I grabbed your arm and suddenly the waves were taking me out, too. Thankfully Sarah was right behind me. I pulled you to her and then I struggled to catch my footing. By the time a lifeguard came out, we were both okay. I thank God daily for keeping us aware of your whereabouts in the water & for Sarah, who decided to come out with me. But most of all I thank God that you were smart enough to just float & keep your head above water. Things could have turned out so differently.
