Journaling: It started out as a stitch in my side. Thirty minutes later it was an annoying ache, which grew to excruciating pain. Then I vomited the double cheeseburger I had had for lunch. In the end, I ended up leaving Leo at our shoot to catch a cab--in the pouring rain--to Makati Med. In the ER the nurses and doctors were very efficient, and I laugh about it now, but they really started moving in fast-forward once I started vomiting again. Then it was about two hours of writhing on a bed until the pain medication (they also gave me anti-nausea meds) kicked in. The diagnosis? It was a case of gastritis. Due to excessive meals of salty, fried, sweet food, skipping meals, & exhaustion. Only about a month since my body failed me, that day was another slap in the face with how much I’ve been abusing my body. Now I take stomach meds & am
really watching my eating.
So I’m considering this my second wake-up call to MOVE and make better choices in what I put inside my body. I haven’t had any soda, sugary desserts, or junk food since my attack. I’ve revised my grocery list to include a bunch of alkaline foods, and now I’m exploring recipes that involve baking or grilling. I also now know where to find cooking spray so we avoid using bottles of cooking oil. Like my skinned knees, I’m humiliated that it took something like this to get me to take action about this, but I’m not playing dumb with the universe any longer. I’m only 33--I want to be in the best shape I can be. I want to live a long while yet and enjoy life. I want to be and stay healthy.
