1999 started out with a break-up. I had thought that I would probably be getting married that year, but instead I found myself single and sad. But, within months, I realized what a blessing that break-up was. I know now that I wouldn’t have been happy if I had remained in that relationship. So, instead of getting married, I dated a lot; I went on trips with my girlfriends and Mormon Youth Chorus; I made new and lifelong friends, I got a new job doing the kind of work I had always wanted to do; I auditioned for and joined the Mormon Tabernacle Choir; I paid off almost all of my debt; and I became a completely different person. By the end of 1999, I had learned so much about myself. I knew what I wanted in a relationship; I knew what I had to offer in a relationship; I wasn’t afraid to take chances anymore; I had more confidence in myself than I had ever had before; and I knew that I could lead a happy and fulfilling life on my own. Only a few weeks into the year 2000, I met Brett, and it wasn’t long before we were planning our life together. I have such an amazing life now, and I can honstly say that the reason I found Brett when I did and the reason I have my wonderful family is because of everything I did during that year of 1999-2000. I will be forever grateful for that difficult, crazy, fun, amazing year of change and growth. It put me on a new path that has brought me all happiness I ever wanted.
