But what are some oldies but goodie books that you remember reading when you were growing up. Does anyone remember Miss Piggly-Wiggle? i am trying to remember some others too.
 
Oh I remember that one! When I was very young I used to read Bearenstein Bears and Spot. As I got older Encyclopedia Brown was one of my favs- that was one where there were different endings and you could read other ways the story could end. Those were fun! The Beverly Cleary books I read all the time too. I've always loved to read!
 
And do you remember those choose you own adventure stories where you would read to a certain point then you got two options and you went on to a certain page depending on which option you chose and each book would have literally a dozen or more stories depending on what you chose to do?
 
Narnia, Little Women, Bobbsey Twins, Hardy Boys, Little House on the Prairie, Harlequin romances, Dahl, (yes....my grandmother abused me ROFL), man..the list is HUGE. But those are ones I remember that impacted me. I didn't read a lot in my younger elementary days (or don't remember a single book, but come third grade, I exploded in my love, and was reading tons - WHATEVER I could get my hands on (thus the harlequins).
 
Oh I read Little Women too. I remember reading it in second or third grade. Loved it. I also loved Nacy Drew Mysteries. I would go to the library and get ten or fifteen at a time and devour them. I would stay up til 1 or 2 in the morning reading on some days
 
ahh Judy Blume..pretty sure all the stuff I learned about being a woman I learned from Judy Blume lol
 
man, i am irritated with myself now. we were just at books-a-million at the Legends mall in KC, well actually i was there 2 days in a row and forgot to look for skippyjon jones books, DUH!!!!!
 
I've never heard of Mrs. Piggly Wiggle. Some of my favorites were:

Charlotte's Web
Little Women
Ramona
Stuart Little
 
The first book I remember reading was "Catundra" It was a story about a fat cat who ate everything he could find and he catches a mouse and the mouse makes him a deal that if he didnt eat him he would help him lose weight. I read that around the age of 5 or so. It was one of my favorite books
 
Judy Blume for sure...I think I was in grade 4 or so when I read Are you there God It's me Margaret.

Benjamin LOVES the Fudge books. LOLOLOL

I loved Ramona too, and I used to read a lot of The Hardy Boys!!!!!! LMAO!
 
I remember reading Are You There God Its Me Margaret a lot. I was maybe 4th grade the first time. There was also book called... The Pistachio Prescription...I think, about a teenage girl with asthma who's parents are getting divorced. One day she decides to tweeze her eyebrows & does such a bad job she wears huge sunglasses to school & gets in trouble for refusing to take them off.

I remember reading a lot of Ramona Quimby, Nancy Drew, Encyclopedia Brown & there was one about some kids who ran away & lived in a museum - the Mixed Up Files of Mrs...somebody or other.
 
Aw! Ramona was my favorite! I still have all of my Beverly Cleary books too! :) Saving for my kids some day!: ) lol
 
I looooved Beverly Cleary and Judy Blume. I was a big reader also of Nancy Drew, Trixie Belden, Boxcar Children. Also loved the Baby-Sitters Club and Sweet Valley High series-LOL, they were never ending!!!!
I also loved Me and Katie(the Pest)!! But by the time I was in jr high, I was reading Stephen King. I've always been a big reader and read anything I can get my hands on. LOL, Darcy, I started on the Harlequin Romance books when I was waaaaaay young! I stayed at my Grandma's house one summer, and those were the only books she had laying around, so they were fair game!

Well, I didn't admit to the really bad ones. A ten year old has no business reading Sidney Sheldon or Jackie Collins (but I did. Learned WAY too much about stuff I had no business knowing ROFL)> And it came from the same thing- staying at grandmother's house in the summer, sleeping in the living room with all the books, and staying up later than everyone else in the house reading 'her' books. :blink:
 
Nancy Drew was always my favorite - I think I read every single one that our local library had and then I moved on to the ones where she teamed up with the Hardy Boys after that. :) And of course, Judy Blume, Beverly Cleary (I loved Ramona!), Little Women - this list could go on and on because I loved to read! :)

I loved Nancy Drew, the Hardy Boys, Encyclopedia Brown, etc. Oh yes.. Babysitters club, Trixie Belden.. the SVH series too....

Oh that is my favorite childrens book of all time!! Love it!!

I was also very into the Babysitters Club! In fact they came out with some movies based on the books and there was only one video store in town that rented them so I made my parents get a membership there so I could see the movies! I love threads like this lol!
 
I remember reading Nancy Drew series, Trixie Belden series, Cherry Ames series, Judy Blume, Beverly Cleary, Wizard of Oz series. Oh yes, loved Encyclopedia Brown too; I still remember some of the stories.
 
I was a big reader when I was a kid (still am!). I remember loving Pipi Longstocking, A Cricket in Times Square, The Wolves of Willowby Chase, Charlotte's Web, and I must have read the Narnia books 100 times. I can't remember when I started reading Agatha Christie books but I read a whole slew of those too.
 
Oh - totally forgot about Black Stallion and Misty of Chincoteaque Island series, and anything by James Herriot (which I'm currently reading to my boys right now). I didn't read Nancy Drew because she was a girl. I disliked girl books. The reason I loved Little Women so much was because of Jo. Little House on the Prairie wasn't about girls. It was about a family living on the prairies - no silly girl stuff really (yeah, dolls for Christmas, but it wasn't silly girl stuff LOLOL)
 
ANNE OF GREEN GABLES were, are, and will always be my favorite books. They shaped me so much in my adolescence and how I viewed marriage and true love. I would have done ANYTHING to have some man love me like Gilbert loves Anne... and to write like Lucy Maud!

I pray all the time to have a little gurl with red hair (which is actually possible since my biological father had red hair & FI has some Irish on his side, too), and if I do, I will be hard pressed to NOT name her Cordelia Blythe with Cordelia being the name Anne wished was her own before she was adopted by Matthew and Marilla and what she tries to tell Marilla is her real name when they first meet and Blythe being Gilbert's (and eventually Anne's) last name.

This is also why I MUST visit Prince Edward Island before I die. To stand on the same shore, walk through the same woods... heaven.

*lol* Warning: romantic idealistic book nerd over here!
 
that is so sweet leandra!! that sounds sooo romantic. i never could get into those books though. not sure why. i wonder if i could now?
 
LOL Another babysitters club fan here! I was a big time reader as a kid so I picked up just about anything. I also really loved the goosebump series and my all time favorite book was The Diary of Anne Frank. There were quite a few more I just have preggo brain right now lol!
