Are your kids named popular? Sorry about my bad grammar! I thought I just put kid

Do your kids have common names? Cooper was 120th last year in popularity, Keira was 190th, Harper for a boy was 605th for boys, but 24th for girls. It's funny how some names come & go, and then there are classics that never go out of style. I only knew one other Vanessa growing up & I loved that! I didn't meet her until high school. Popularity of the name always played a big part in the naming process for us.

Jacob - Number 1 boy spot for the last 14 years - baby!!! :w00t:

Kiddo is 6 and has been in a number of Y classes, church things and last year homeschooling events and has never been with another Jacob until this year at the a homeschooling convention. It doesn't bother me that it's popular... with the last name Kuchenbecker, you want a very short and common name - and spelling has to be common. :D I love the nickname Jake... also I have a thing about having names that are in the bible.

I never had another Becky near me until I was in 4th grade... there was a Becky that came into the school district that was a year ahead and then another girl started in Kindergarten.... but most were calling me Becca at that time. Then I got to college and there were 3 Beckys on the same dorm floor... so I became Beckie. When I started working, I switched to Reba because I was training in the mills and it was an odd name that most of the mill workers would remember in case they have questions while I was on site. Now, I mostly go by Rebecca and I only know one other Rebecca - a mother of a boy that is the same age as Jake at church. I never really thought about having a common/not common name and if I like not knowing others with my name... :o
 
I never knew another Darcy until I was an adult, and that was a famous ballerina. I've heard of them here and there, and have only met 2 since then - and one of them is a child of a friend at church, so if the families are all together, it drives me nuts to hear my name over and over again!

When we named both of our boys, we didn't expect them to be popular, and it turns out they are super popular. We kept to our Scottish/Irish roots, so that's just the way it is.
 
I had several Kristins & Jennifers in school in my classes at they always used their last name initial too. Keira has a Brianna R & Brianna S in her class. I didn't even know Brianna was a common name
 
We liked other names, like Ethan & Owen, but we tried to stay out of the top 100 for popularity. With Keira, I loved Kaitlyn, but Sean said people would call her Katie & I hated that.
 
when we chose names, we had two criteria - they needed to be a french name (my husband is french and really wanted names that were french) and something that was not too popular or trendy. audrey is more popular than juliette (hovering between 40 - 60th place vs. somewhere in the 200 - 300th place) - but doesn't seem tooo popular. i also like that both names are well-known, easy to pronounce, etc. we spell juliette w/ the french spelling - and that can kind-of be a pain.
 
With the big boys we just went with names not in our families (hard with families as large as mine alone, lol) John picked first names, I picked middle
Zachary (named after Zakk Wylde who incidentally is actually was born a Jeffery, lol). It was 26 the year he was born, and is currently 68. We've only met maybe a handful of other Zacharys. (Evan, his middle name, was 34 when he was born and is now 47)
Ryan (named after Ryan Martinie, John's favorite bassist) was 14 when he was born and is now 26. It has steadily been on the drop. (Jacob, middle name is always 1, lol)

Isabella - NOT named after stupid Twilight chick, John has had that named picked since we got pregnant with Zach in 2004. 1 girl name for when she was born 2009, guess what movie was released in late November 2008. I begged him to change his mind, but I lost the naming bet. We know so many other Bellas her age that it is INSANE and generally why we usually call her Belly or Pudding or Bella Ann instead. (Ann - her middle name never breaks 200, but I bet if that searched middle names that'd be in the top 5, lol)

Mason (I finally got to name one of my children!!!) This has been my boy first name pick since I was pregnant with Zach. It was 2 his birth year and the year before but I didn't care. I was using that name dangitall. Spencer (middle name, after my brother Spencer (their birthdays are 2 days apart) who was named after Spencer Tracy) very rarely breaks above 100. We generally refer to Mason as Mase, Masey, or Spencer.

((Yes, I am always this long when people ask me this question, lol))

Both my girls have names that are well-known and understood (in Denmark, anyway), but not very common. I checked for popularity because I didn't want to give them names "everyone" has. With the number of Isabellas and Sofies at their daycare, I know it's not a concern for everyone!
 
Landon is 34th popular name. I don't know many Landon's out there - but I know there are a few digi scrappers with Landon's :)

Blake is currently at 71. Which is the lowest it's been in the last 12 years. Probably because of Blake Shelton! Geez! LOL

We choose names because we liked them. We tried to stay out of the top 25 - which we accomplished (barely though for Landon!)
 
Michael has moved to 8 (it was #2 the year he was born). Thomas is 63 (it was 51 the year he was born). Sheri (or any derivative) is not on the list.
 
Well Jason was 51st the year he was born. But although an unpopular name for a girl was a big requirement for me, when we found out he was a boy it didn't matter because he was going to be a Jr.

Growing up a Tracy was awful as there were 2 other girls and 1 guy with that name in my grade level all through school. I'm still friends with the guy now so it's fun to be in a group and someone call our name...we both look.

Jason was so popular that I can say other than my husband I had 3 boyfriends over the years with the same name LOL!

Funny part is that neither my son or hubby go by Jason. We have a Jay and an L.J. (Little Jason).
 
Chloe was in the top 10 last year when I named her, and I didn't even care. Sure, I would've liked something less popular, but that was the only name that Jeff & I could agree on. (My choice was Mallory; he HATED it).

Jeff & I both grew up with names in the top 10 when we were born (I went by Elizabeth as a kid), and we survived. LOL So, I think Chloe will probably make it, too. ;)
 
Yep, they both have fairly popular names. I didn't even really consider the popularity when choosing their names - being a Sara myself, there were always a billion Sara/Sarah's all around me and it didn't bother me that much. And I think there is so much more variety in baby names these days.

Benjamin is #16 and Matthew is #12 - which actually surprises me that Matthew is higher on the list, but I hadn't looked until just now! :)
 
I've known so many Megans of all spellings and pronunciations it's not even funny. I was even best friends with another curly-haired redhead with the same middle name as me (although she was a Meghan).

I've also been best friends with another redhead Meagan. It's crazy.

So for my kids I wanted classic, but not common.

Oliver was 98th in 2009, 73 now.
Camilla was 458th in 2011, 437 now.

We know OF some Olivers, but have never met any. And yes, I love the book Oliver Twist!

The only Camilla we know is actually Camila, and she's from the Ukraine (I believe...DH has so many foreign coworkers that I mix them up all the time!) and is old enough to be Camilla's grandma. Her name was totally random when it came to us overnight after she was born, and we went with the Italian spelling because my MIL is half Italian. Camila is currently 48th, but I'm guessing that with the spelling it's probably more popular in non-English as a first language families/communities. I might see a lot more if I moved back to AZ!

DH was a Matt growing up, but loved that he wasn't another Matthew, he was a Matthias. He switched to going by Matthias when he moved to college, and now his family tries so hard to call him Matthias when they talk to me. It's hilarious actually.
 
I wanted to name my son Sawyer since it is a family name. But people kept asking if I was naming him that after the Lost character, a show I've never even seen. Also, I read somewhere that people are now calling girls sawyer. So we went with Samuel Sawyer. Samuel is still relatively popular (25-30), but being a teacher, I have never had a Samuel. Teaching can be tough for baby naming because inevitably you associate certain names to with kids, whether good or bad.

I love my son's name but we DO avoid just calling him Sam. He is always Samuel or Sammy. Seems like that helps with the number of "Sam"s out there.

Josiah was low 100s when he was born and now is in the low 90s...I can live with that
Finn is still mid 100s....yay!

We like unique (but not out there) names so it makes me happy!
 
You can only control so much, name popularity seems to have a life of its own. My name is more popular now than when I was growing up but I've never met another in person and I can't imagine being in a room with other people with my name. Weird! Dh's name was really popular when we were kids, not so much anymore, when he goes to work he's one of 4. Our preference was to not choose anything too popular but we wouldn't have settled for something we didn't like just to avoid it.

My oldest daughter's name is popular in other countries but not here, and it's traditionally a male name. Her name doesn't rank.

My youngest daughter's name is becoming more popular. It was 437 the year we named her but it's up to 339 now.
 
Skylar was 171 in 2007 (but for girls, not boys). The boy version (Skyler) was 271. Apparently it's becoming more popular for girls, but less for boys.

Hunter was 59th in 2010. We named him back in 2004 and I still LOVE his name!

Our little girl is due to arrive in a few weeks. Her name is currently ranked 349th.
 
The name we chose for our younger child wasn't in the Top 10 or anything like that when we initially chose it, but it's most definitely in the Top 10 now. I think we must have been on the leading edge with that name. :-) My child is usually the only one with that name in her grade at school, despite it's enormous popularity. I think it is also geographic as the name is extremely popular in other parts of the country. Our other child's name was in the Top 25 and is now in the Top 50.

When the girls were born in 2005 - Chloe was #19, but I'd loved that name for a long time, I didn't care that it was fairly popular. Caitlyn (spelled Kaitlyn) was #34, and dh picked that name (*ahem* there was pressure for our kids' to have "matching" names since they were twins *gag* - so that's the name he picked - we each picked a name :) ) I don't like the nickname Katie either, though we have called her Cait quite often. But their nicknames are Custard and Cake, so it's pretty close to Cait.

My name is Brienne. I never knew another with my name growing up. Now in the age of the internet, I could find some :D But I got called BriAnnA a lot, and I hated it - I also got called Bernie, Berneen, anything really, with a b and r and n sound :P Shortened it to Brie when I hit high school.
 
It's #145. I'm so bummed.

I thought that I was picking a really unique name (like MINE!), but she's already had an Eliana in her swim class and in her Sunday school class... and she's only (almost) 4!

Isabelle is 126, but Isabella is currently #3 (and I think was #1 her birth year). She gets called Isabella a lot and I am not fond of that...

Ella is currently 12!? That surprises me a lot, actually.

Emery is 211, but Emily is currently #6. Once again similar to a very popular name...
 
Well, my oldest ds is John (I call him Johnny) and 15 years ago when I named it (wasn't my choice, family name. I hated it, lol!) it was #15.

My dd is Eden and when she was born in 2000 it was #523

I looooooove her name. I got to pick it on my own because I had to submit to John with my first, lol!

My son Caliber, "is not in the top 1000 names for any year of birth in the last 13 years."
My daughter Brooklynn, in 2012 was 137th...
And Edyn was the same as Caliber, but because of the different spelling of "Eden" I search that too, which was 164th for 2012, lol.

Now mine...was the lowest it had been in the last 13 years, at 43rd :) lol. I'm a common name with uncommon children...

Same here! I know I signed my kids up for butchering because is that 1 or 2 n's? is that calibur or caliber? I guarantee my poor edyn will always have problems! But they are as unique as the kids so it fits!
 
I don't care too much about whether my kids names were/are popular or not. I didn't really choose with that in mind, but I was kind of opposed to the super-trendy names at the time and wanted to stick with classic, timeless names. Benjamin (24th when he was born & 16th now) was the only boy name DH & I could agree on. I felt like it was a distinguished full name with a casual, likable nickname. He goes by Ben 99% of the time (or Benny the other 1%). Grace (17th when she was born & 21st now) was my great-grandmother's name, so it has meaning to us.

Wouldn't it be neat to see where names are the most popular? So out in NorCal there are a bunch of Landon's but here in IA there's only a handful (maybe!). Is that a option you can search for? Off to look...
 
Ava - Her name was #5 in the U.S the year she was born, and #5 in 2012 as well.
Lilly - #24 in the year she was born, and #16 in 2012. Her full name is Lilith though.
 
We didn't specifically choose popular names, but as it turns out, our kids' names have turned out to be more popular than we expected.

We spell our oldest's name Luc, so while there are a lot of Lukes, we used the French spelling because my husband grew up speaking French and his mom is Swiss.
 
Considering how insanely popular my name was(top 10 for over two decades), I refuse to choose a name currently trending.Our top name choices are both over #200 on the list currently. My stepkids names have never hit top 100 either.
