I'm taking the wigs back tomorrow!

I was given a few wigs before I had started my treatments for breast cancer. I used them when we went out but at home I wore a cotton beanie. I found the wigs tend to be hot and itchy. This September will be my three year anniversary being cancer free. I have held onto those wigs because I was afraid. I was afraid I would need to use them again because of a reoccurrence. One wig came from a salon that gave free wigs to women undergoing cancer treatments. The other wig was sent to me by a friend. I am going to take them both to the salon tomorrow so other ladies can use these wigs. I'm hoping with giving the wigs back I can let go of some of the fear I have been holding on to.

I want to give you a bug real life hug!
What a beautiful thing to do. I hope it works healing for you. Good luck, my friend!

Thank you so much, Sarah! I am taking a leap of faith and taking them back!

What a beautiful sweet thing to do! That’s such a wonderful idea to give them to others who are facing this journey. I start my first chemo this week and I have no idea how I feel about hats or scarves or beanies or wigs or any of it just yet. I wish you continued health and congratulations on being cancer free for over two years!!!

Stacy, I will be praying for you as you start your treatments and for your recovery. I wore wigs when we went out to dinner or church. I did not go out to eat or church until halfway through my radiation treatments because I didn't want to catch anything. I then went back to church halfway through my radiation treatments and got COVID. I should have tried to stay home longer or tried to wear a mask I don't do well with masks for long periods of time. Here is a website where you can find names of hair salons that will donate a wig free to patients undergoing chemo. That is what I did. It also has links to free care packages which contain thoughtful gifts for cancer patients. https://cancercarenews.com/category/more-cancer-freebies/
I wore beanies at home because I was babysitting our 18 month old granddaughter and she was afraid of me if she saw my bald head. She would hide her face. I wore the beanie for her. Once my hair started growing out a tiny bit I was at church and the wig was hot. My friends encouraged me to just take it off so I did! After that I didn't wear the wig anymore. I have seen women who chose not to wear wigs or head coverings. What I see when I see them are beautiful, courageous and strong woman.
Much love, hugs and prayers for you!

That's beautiful, Evelyn. I know that many people who will need it will be grateful.

God bless you on your first chemo, Stacy. I will also add you in my prayers. You will feel a little awkward at first, but maybe you could feel that there's a little freedom without hair for the meantime. This beanie here gives a full coverage but great to not make you sweat.

What a wonderful thing to do. So happy to hear this. What a beautiful way to celebrate and try to let go of the fear! Very brave and courageous! You are such a wonderful forum friend - sending you a big virtual hug!

That's wonderful Evelyn, and a big step in your recovery. Sending you a big hug!

Sending you big hugs too Stacy, as you begin your journey. All the positive and healing vibes coming your way.

What a very sweet thing to do! Thankful you are on the road to recovery! I know my mom received some of those free wigs when she was going through breast Cancer. She wore a few, but also wore the soft beanie hats more than wigs! Praying for you as you continue to recover and heal (emotionally and physically)
